Poland consolidates mines

A KW spokesperson told Interfax the consolidation of mines would allow the company to cut costs and give it leeway to access new deposits.

High maintenance costs were the main driver behind the mines targeted for shutdown or mergers.

KW has also lowered its costs through job cutting, losing 11,600 employees from March 2003 to November 2004.
