Two of the 26 underground at the time of the blast were left injured while seven managed to escape.
The blast occurred in a town-owned mine in the country’s northern Shanxi Province.
A spokesman for the local mine safety administration told Xinhua the accident was a result of unauthorised production. The mine had been ordered to shut down as it did not have a safety production license, but continued to operate in secret.
