The 25-borehole program will be conducted at the flagship Kangwane tenement and will continue the site’s exploration, verification and geotechnical drilling.
All subsequent drilling, analysis and geological modelling is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2012.
Kangwane is situated in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province and has an exploration target of 350-450 million tonnes and a JORC-compliant resource of 136.3Mt.
Exploratory drilling at Mbila will consist of 10 diamond drillholes totalling 2000m.
The Mbila project, located in the country’s KwaZulu Natal province, has a JORC-compliant resource of 125Mt.
ZYL executive chairman Bevan Tarratt said the program results would help expand and increase the site’s resource as well as advance progress in mine planning.
“The structural and geotechnical programs to be completed at Mbila allow us to progress with completing the mine design as soon as possible,” he said.
Results from the first phase of drilling at Mbila are expected in April 2012 while Kangwane results will be announced shortly after Q3 2012.
