THE team at Aspermont is deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden death of managing editor Greg ...

Greg passed away on Christmas Day while in Thailand with his family. He leaves behind his wife Ann and four children, Andrew, John, Sarah and Ben.

Greg, who was born in 1971, joined Aspermont in 2000 after spending several years with the Nation newspaper in Thailand.

From the beginning of his time with the company Greg was instrumental in building Aspermont’s online publications, first as a journalist and then as sub-editor and editor.

He was the driving force behind MiningNewsPremium.net – to the point where he was still in the office launching the new publication while his wife went into hospital to give birth to their fourth child.

After leaving the company in 2004 to work as a journalist with Australian Associated Press and then in public relations with Jan Hope – now Read Corporate – Greg returned to Aspermont in 2005 in a senior editorial position, managing the mining publications.

In mid-2009 Greg took control of Aspermont’s editorial team and steered the department through some difficult times in the aftermath of the financial crisis.

His strong sense of justice, his commitment to editorial quality, his fierce realism and his love of gossip were immensely appreciated by his colleagues.

With a great sense of humour, Greg enjoyed a good verbal stoush and never seemed happier than when he was winding someone up.

He was also very caring and sensitive and he always looked out for everyone in his team, and the company.

His willingness to stand up and fight for the best interests of the editorial team will, like everything else about Greg, be deeply missed.

Our thoughts are with his family in this difficult time.
