QME preview: Dywidag-Systems International (DSI)

DSI Mining Products Division is Australia’s largest manufacturer and supplier of specialist strata reinforcement and support products to the underground coal and metalliferous mining sectors.

DSI specialises in the design, development, manufacture and distribution of these products.

It is also a major exporter to the Asia Pacific region.

DSI’s head office and main manufacturing facility in Australia is in Bennetts Green, Newcastle, New South Wales. Another manufacturing facility is located in Perth to service the Western Australian market.

To ensure efficient logistic and technical support DSI also has branch offices and warehouses in Queensland and Western Australia, close to major mining regions.

DSI’s extensive product range allows customers to source most of their strata product requirements through one supplier. DSI also assists with customer stock management to ensure product availability and minimise inventory costs.

Innovation is driving the growth of strata reinforcement solutions, according to DSI chief executive Derek Hird.

“Innovation is the key for organisations to remain competitive now and in the future. Innovation is about working smarter to meet the diverse needs of our customers,” he said.

“Innovative practices have provided a new focus for the organisation and enabled DSI to respond proactively to new trends and market conditions resulting in new dimensions in performance.”

To enable constant worldwide access and coordination of DSI technology, all product development for the DSI global mining business unit is managed by the central research and development division in Bennetts Green, Newcastle.
