The Oxy 6000 has been rated to have a 60-minute duration in accordance with New South Wales standard MDG 3609 Escape Breathing Apparatus for Underground Coal Mining Applications.
This will allow Draeger to supply the SCSRs to the underground market, be it in coal or hard rock mining.
Incorporating the “safety eye”, it is designed to let users immediately confirm the unit’s operational readiness. The “eye” takes the form of a clear status window that allows users to check for the presence of moisture and yellow potassium super oxide fragments within the device on a daily basis.
According to Draeger the unit has been tested in the harshest mining applications and offers a 10-year lifetime without maintenance.
The housing of the Oxy 6000 Self-Rescuer features a double-cased design to protect the potassium super oxide cartridge. It comes complete with integral shock absorption and crush zone protection. The housing also features replaceable abrasion and wear protection for maximum strength and durability.
Ergonomically designed and compact for optimium manoeuvrability, the Oxy 6000 is said to be comfortable to wear and to minimise restriction of movement.
This type of equipment has been specifically developed for emergency situations. The apparatus can be constantly carried on the user’s belt without noticeably impeding normal activities.
