After a concentrated two years of exploration and definition of target areas the company is entering a new progression phase across its Queensland and NSW tenements.
Of importance to the company's plans is the progression of stage two of its Yamala exploration program that will generate an initial open cut mine followed by a significant longwall or continuous mining operation.
The project, a joint venture with Sojitz Corporation is focused on an inferred resource of 190 million tonnes near Emerald in the Bowen Basin.
Other projects to be accelerated include the proposed open cut Elimatta operation that recently had a resource upgrade to 285Mt of which 155Mt fell in the indicated category.
Progressive plans for Elimatta involve initial infill drilling before launching a feasibility study.
Northern Energy managing director Keith Barker said the company's gearing up to become a mine developer after establishing solid resources.
Barker said the company was also looking to advance negotiations on infrastructure access in the coming quarter, following further positive developments in relation to rail and port options during the past quarter.
"Northern Energy is in discussion with port and rail infrastructure providers with regard to throughput capacity on the Surat Rail and at the Wiggins Island Coal Terminal relating to both the Elimatta and Yamala Projects," he said.
