The company is transferring another 21 employees to its nearby Mandalong mine as part of a restructure because of the coal mining downturn and the difficult geological conditions being encountered at Myuna, according to a company spokeswoman.
‘‘This has been a difficult decision and Centennial is committed to diligently working through a process that will sensitively support those impacted,’’ she said.
The production profile for Myuna, which supplies the nearby Eraring power station, had been kept in response to the downturn to about 1.8 million tonnes.
In January this year the New South Wales government faced a letter-writing campaign from coal miners to help Centennial Coal save nearly 100 jobs through state approval of its Myuna colliery expansion plans.
Centennial put the Newstan colliery, 9.6km north of Myuna, on care and maintenance in August 2014 at a cost of 148 jobs.
