Adani Carmichael mine: residents urged to get health checks
Doctors have urged people who lived near the proposed Adani Carmichael mine, and the transport links that would service it, to get their health checked now to arm themselves for possible action down the track, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Doctors for the Environment Australia member David King, a Brisbane-based GP and senior lecturer at the University of Queensland's school of medicine, said those residents needed a “baseline” with which to compare their health down the track, should they fall ill as a result of the mine's activities.
Mining industry malaise is good for gold miners
Costs in the Australian gold mining sector are continuing to decline as miners of the precious metal benefit from the challenging conditions buffeting other parts of the industry, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

In the past five years Gina Rinehart has topped Forbes Australia's rich list but this year she has been unseated by another woman, reclusive American heiress and longtime Australian resident Blair Parry-Okeden, according to the Australian Financial Review.
Parry-Okeden's net worth of $US8.8 billion makes her the country's richest person while Rinehart has fallen to second place with a net worth of $8.5 billion.
