Buffier will speak about the state of the global industry, with WCA members accounting for 20% of global coal production and 31% of coal exports.
The WCA aims to demonstrate that coal plays an indispensable role in meeting global demand for electricity, steel and cement, while simultaneously meeting environmental challenges and building a sustainable industry, according to the organizer of the Awards, the Bowen Basin Mining Club.
“Given the current issues facing the Queensland mining industry, Buffier’s address will be both timely and relevant,” it said.
Queensland Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Anthony Lynham will be providing the opening address of the Awards.
The Awards will be held on Wednesday July 27 during QME 2016 in Mackay.
