According to sources in the Guizhou Provincial Administration for Work Safety, the explosion occurred while the miners were digging a tunnel underground in a newly built shaft.
The blast occurred at about 4.45pm local time on Tuesday at the Guiqing Coal Mine located at the Zhongshan Township in Qianxi County of Guizhou's Bijie Prefecture, official news agency Xinhua reported.
