The coking quality results, made by the Gallagher Coal Research Centre, included coke strength after reaction scores that ranged from 69 to 86.5 among the samples taken from various seams.
Fitzroy said part of the marketing study would investigate possible premium uses for the product coal.
“Certain coals have characteristics that yield higher market prices to even those that hard coking coal can receive,” Fitzroy said.
The study will also help delineate the reserves at Fitzroy’s Emmaus and Blackstone projects in West Virginia.
Fitzroy picked up the two projects by acquiring Premier Coking Coal during the December quarter in a cash and shares-based deal.
