GeoConsult has already developed a reputation from its undertakings throughout all of the main geological basins in Queensland and NSW as well as various projects throughout Mongolia and Indonesia.

In 2005, GeoConsult opened a Hong Kong office to provide geological project management, coal and coal seam gas exploration services to its varied clients throughout Asia.

GeoConsult principal consultant Warwick Smyth believed the current state of the market was the quiet before the storm, with the company positioned to benefit from a probable recovery next year.

“In all phases of the commodity cycle including the downturns, it is important for our consulting and laboratory business divisions to provide the right type of value-adding service and benefit,” he told ICN..

“I live and breathe my business and know every detail inside and out. It is this intimate knowledge that gives our clients the confidence in the service we provide.”

In regard to GeoConsult’s plans for the future, Smyth said the company had been looking at opening an additional project office and coal seam gas laboratory in New South Wales.

“We are likely to make a final investment decision on this once the regulatory environment has settled and confidence returns to the NSW gas market.”

GeoConsult is also looking into projects and expansion throughout Asia and South America, with increasing enquiries from these regions.

“The quintessential lessons our principal consultants and I have learnt is to provide excellent customer service,” Smyth said.

“It is the backbone of good business. Booms come and go, but knowledgeable and responsive client service will always be a key to longevity and success.”

GeoConsult provided a complete “borehole to boardroom” turnkey service for the coal and CSG sectors, according to Smyth.

In the coal sector, GeoConsult is a multi-disciplinary company of consulting geoscientists offering a range of project management, field, analytical and reporting services, including economic and exploration asset valuations, CP sign-off, coal quality, resource analysis and geological modelling.

For the underground coal mining and coal seam gas sectors, GeoConsult’s geological services are supported by two NATA-accredited laboratories in coal quality analysis and testing, and coal seam gas desorption.

Since June 1994, GeoConsult has been providing its client-focused services throughout Australia and, for the last 15 years, to southeast Asia.

“GeoConsult has recently carried out underground gas compliance testing for Oaky Creek Coal, a Glencore managed company, from its NATA-accredited laboratory at Emerald; as well as undertaking fugitive emissions testing for a number of nearby open cut coal operations,” Smyth said.
