The alert revealed that cracks had been observed around some of the mounting holes on the battery packs for SKC 210-3311AZ Airchek 3000 dust sampling pumps which may compromise there IS explosion protection properties.
“The insert nuts fitted to some of the battery cases are misaligned, resulting in stress on the battery/pump connection,” the Department of Natural Resources and Mines alert said.
“Simtars, the certifying body for the units, has determined the integrity of the intrinsic safety properties may be compromised by such cracks.”
Manufacturer SKC Limited believes the affected products in this regard fall into a serial number range of 12101 to 14460 inclusive.
“Customers with these pumps should inspect the rear cases for cracks in the plastic bosses around the insert nuts that secure the battery pack to the pump case,” DNRM said.
“The serial numbers of any pumps with cracks need to be confirmed with SKC Limited and they will supply replacement rear cases, free of charge.”
DNRM said to comply with certification from the Australian Program for the Certification of Equipment for Explosive Atmospheres required that the replacement rear cases were supplied with serial number labels fitted that must match the original pump serial number.
