Its CEO Stephen Bizzaca said the new contract will see Delta SBD taking the role of mine operator with responsibility for the complete operation of the mine.
“This contract showcases Delta’s uniqueness as a whole of mine operator in Australia,” Bizzaca said.
“It demonstrates our company’s remnant mining capabilities and our ability to provide innovative and cost effective mining solutions in a very competitive market.”
The mine is currently in care and maintenance status, but mining is planned to re-commence in February 2016 at rate of 1 million ROM tonnes per year using a full pillar extraction mining process.
“The contract will result in deployment of over 100 personnel and the majority of Delta’s mining fleet, including two continuous miners,” Bizzaca said.
“In recognition of the current coal industry downturn in the Illawarra region, recruitment of skilled and experienced personnel will be prioritised to this region.”
Site mobilisation is planned to commence on 11 January 2016. The initial term of the contract term is two years.
