The recently published Telstra productivity indicator said on a scale of one to 10, 93% of mining industry organisations gave productivity improvement a priority of eight or more.
Other industries in the highest percentile included utilities, fishing and agriculture.
However, Telstra says even within the resources sector, both achievement of gains and optimism for future productivity improvement has fallen sharply.
Despite encouraging enthusiasm for productivity among resource-focused companies, the study finds the number of Australian organisations with improved productivity has dropped by a quarter since 2011.
The company says against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, Australian organisations are generally less confident about increasing productivity.
Telstra cited investment in innovation initiatives and information and communication technologies as key strategies for organisations wishing to improve productivity performance.
