While the details are largely still unknown, television news station WTAE said Thursday that an unidentified worker at the mine in Washington County, Pennsylvania had been caught between two machines whilst doing maintenance.

Consol spokesman Tom Hoffman confirmed the accident for International Longwall News Thursday, adding that the worker was a contractor and not a Consol employee.

Also, the worker’s injuries “were not critical”, he noted.

The double-longwall complex, which mines from the Pittsburgh No. 8 seam with the use of six continuous miner units as well, is idled this week for maintenance.

A request for comment from the US Mine Safety and Health Administration was not returned Thursday.
