Many QRC member companies are participating in the Australian Government's Energy Efficiency Opportunities program, aimed at increasing the energy efficiency of Australia's 250 largest energy users.
“Far from jumping on the green bandwagon, Queensland minerals and energy companies have been working to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and improving their energy efficiency performance over a number of years," Roche said.
“They are investing hundreds of millions of dollars in initiatives to reduce their direct use of fossil fuels and in technologies to reduce greenhouse emissions from coal and gas-fired electricity production.
“Our coal sector is investing $600 million in Queensland over the next 10 years to fund the research, development and demonstration of low-emission technologies with global potential."
