Thiess inks Indonesian mining contract

Subsidiary PT Thiess Contractors Indonesia will provide overburden removal and mine support services at the Samboja Coal Mine in East Kalimantan, with works scheduled to begin in June.

President director Roy Olsen said Thiess already had a major presence in Balikpapan supporting the company’s other Kalimantan mining projects.

He said the proximity of the Samboja Coal Mine Project made it a natural fit into Thiess’ existing operations.

Thiess Indonesia currently has more than $US1 billion worth of work in hand.

Shares in parent company Leighton gained 60c to reach $47.89 this morning.
