Featuring a Tyre & Rims Risk Management Tool and downloadable checklists of incident causes and industry adopted solutions, TYREgate was unveiled in August at the Queensland Industry Health and Safety conference.
Queensland Mines Inspectorate senior inspector Tilman Rasche recommended the checklists to boost safety systems.
“A mine manager can print these off and hand them to his foreman to check if his safety management system has considered the hazards,” he said.
“Much easier than having to search through a lengthy report.”
Along with Rasche, Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre senior research officer Dr Guldidar V Kizil played a key role in the development of TYREgate.
“To our knowledge, TYREgate is a world-first online searchable causal factors database for earthmover tyre accidents and incidents,” she said.
Both Rasche and Kizil are aiming to establish other causal factor databases covering major mining risks to assist the industry.
Data on several death incidents are freely available from the online service, including a US fatality in 2004 caused by the incorrect underground installation of a shuttle car wheel and tyre.
