According to Reuters 53 miners were underground when an ejection of coal and gas occurred.

A safety spokeswoman told AFP the fate of four miners remains unknown, while the news service reported there was a discharge of methane 1300m underground.

In late 2007, 100 miners were killed in a devastating blast at the Zasyadko underground coal mine. It was the country’s worst mining accident since Soviet rule.
