The company has implemented an enhanced ventilation plan after approval from the US Mine Safety and Health Administration.
"Our team has worked hard to successfully address MSHA's concerns and implement this enhanced ventilation plan. We are pleased that the Federal mine has resumed operation in a relatively short period of time," Patriot chief executive officer Richard M Whiting said.
"Maintaining a safe work environment for our employees has been our overarching goal as we suspended production and now reopen the mine. Consistent with our mission statement, safety will continue to be our highest priority and the cornerstone of our relationship with our employees."
MSHA spokesperson Amy Louviere told various media earlier this week that mine officials had had to develop a plan to lower heightened methane gas levels in several sealed sections of the northern West Virginia mine. A March 1 meeting was set up to review those plans.
