North China's Shanxi Province will reward workers who report hidden dangers in coal mine operations, official news agency Xinhua reported.

Workers who report the dangers to trade unions can be awarded anything from 300-3000 yuan ($US37-370), if the report is confirmed true.

The reporting is something of a double-edge sword, however, with anyone supplying false information to be prosecuted.

Identities of reporting workers will be kept hidden.
