Caruso and Rosengren to headline safety conference

The MAIN Safety Conference at Mackay Convention Centre will also hear from Bechtel manager Phillip Newsome, general manager of Zemek Engineering Carle Howe, and BMC Metallurgical Coal asset president Michael Rosengren.

“The MAIN Bowen Basin Safety Conference has been designed to work collaboratively to establish the Bowen Basin as a recognised leader in world-class safety in the mining and resources Industry,” the organisers said.

In 2004, Caruso graduated from Central Queensland University with a degree in business.

He sits on several advisory boards for local SMEs as well as the Mastermyne board, is the local chair for the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a council member for the Australian Institute of Management.

Rosengren leads BHP Billiton Mitsui Coal (BMC) Asset in Queensland, responsible for the South Walker Creek and Poitrel open cut operations.

Rosengren’s 25 years in underground and open-cut, coal and metalliferous operations is complemented by senior experience in the private and public sectors, owner and contractor environments.

He believes fundamental philosophies associated with good safety management are transferable to all aspects of business.

He focuses intensely on using safety as a vehicle for leadership change. This approach has a strong basis in simplicity and transparency, and when combined with the passion to make a change in behaviour and systems, has resulted in significant and enduring improvement, he said.

He believes that the greatest demonstration that companies genuinely care for employees is in its approach to safety.
