The majority of the protests have targeted Whitehaven Coal’s Maules Creek mine, a 2000-hectare open-cut coal operation.
Whitehaven’s $719 million mine was given final approval in July 2012, with production expected by the second half of this year.
Since the approval, the company has seen a string of challenges from environmentalists.
Most recently, there was a well-publicised lawsuit against federal Environmental Minister Tony Burke over his approval of the mine, while numerous employees refused to begin work on the project.
The unidentified gecko woman has been charged with trespassing and interfering with trains, and will appear in Newcastle Local Court later this month.
