THE Chinese government is aiming to close down 1052 coal mines in 2015 according to its National Energy Administration.

Their closure is expected to eliminate 63.9 million tonnes of coal production capacity. The administration is additionally targeting mines which have output higher than approved capacity as part of plan to phase out a total of 77.8Mtpa through these cuts and the mine closures.

While small coal mines will be targeted for closure, the administration also aimed to upgrade 202 mines that have around 13.9Mtpa of capacity according to Bloomberg.
