Moon is an accomplished senior executive and had substantial experience across both the public and private sector, Queensland Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said.
“Mr Moon has been Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority since November 2015 and has been at the Queensland Reconstruction Authority since May 2011,” Trad said.
“After constructing an incredibly successful career on the rugby field, Mr Moon has been working hard leading recovery and reconstruction in Queensland following natural disasters.
“As a former Wallaby great, Mr Moon knows the importance of team work which is vitally important to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority as it works closely with key stakeholders at a local, state and federal level.
“Mr Moon has a proven track record of leadership and success both on and off the field and I look forward to continuing to work with him in his capacity as Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.”
The Queensland Reconstruction Authority is responsible for managing and administering the State’s Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) program.
The Queensland Reconstruction Authority was established following the unprecedented damage caused by the Queensland Floods and Tropical Cyclone Yasi and associated rainfall and flooding in 2010-11.
The Queensland Reconstruction Authority was made a permanent part of the Queensland Government in June 2015.
“[Moon] has led a multi-disciplinary team in the assessment, delivery and acquittal of a reconstruction program valued at more than $13 billion administered by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, Trad said.
“Mr Moon has helped improve the resilience of our state’s infrastructure having managed the joint Commonwealth-State $80 million Betterment Fund following natural disasters in 2013 and the delivery of the $20 million Betterment Fund that was established following Tropical Cyclone Marcia last year.”
Moon was appointed CEO by an independent panel from a field of more than 50 applicants.
