Australian Greens Senator Larissa Waters said without taxpayer-funding, Adani’s multi-billion Carmichael coal mine and infrastructure project “does not stack up financially”
“The Labor state Government looks set to buddy up with the Liberal federal Government to waste taxpayer money on a railway line for Adani to send millions of tonnes of coal through the Reef to further cook its coral,” she said.
“Without taxpayer-funding, this mega coal mine does not stack up financially and more than a dozen banks have ruled out providing finance.
“Kicking in taxpayer money to get this white elephant over the line makes no sense economically or environmentally.”
Governments should be investing in clean energy where “jobs will last long-term, with training and a transition plan for workers,” Waters said.
