The list of papers for the conference – at the University of Wollongong on February 14-15 – has been released, chairman Associate Professor Naj Aziz told ILN.

“Topics covered include mine planning, longwall mining, pillar design, general rock mechanics and ground control, and geophysical logging,” he said.

“Rock bolting – both rebar and cable – bolt corrosion, land subsidence, mine ventilation, mine dust and dust control, mine fires, coal spontaneous combustion, mine gases and outburst control will also be covered.”

Open cut mining issues will be addressed in topics covering the estimation of fugitive gas emissions in surface mining and the economics of extended pre-striping operations.

The conference is jointly organised by the University of Wollongong mining engineering faculty, the Illawarra branch of Australasian Mining and Metallurgy, and the Mine Managers’ Association of Australia .

It is sponsored by leading mining companies, mines services and product suppliers, and research organisations, Aziz said.
