BHP’s Crinum mine in Central Queensland has set a new Australian weekly production record, producing 231,655 tonnes of coal in the week beginning July 31, of which 222 600t came from the mine's continuous longwall operation.
The new record was achieved on the basis of two 12-hour shifts, seven days a week, and is almost 9% higher than the previous Australian weekly production record of 213,000 tonnes.
Crinum's previous best weekly production record of 192,891t was set in April this year.
Crinum production manager Gavin Taylor said the achievement is a tribute to the efforts of the entire mine's crews.
"Our development crews are performing well and have recently set shift records for metres advanced at the mine," he said. "Good teamwork by our longwall crews, as well as a sound safety performance, has contributed to achieving this outstanding result."
The Crinum mine is located 350km north-west of Gladstone in Queensland, Australia. It is owned by the Gregory Joint Venture, which comprises BHP (64.14%), QCT Resources (32.37%) and Mitsubishi Development (3.49%).
