Newly formed contracting company, Eastern Mining Construction, has begun work developing the drift of the Nardell bord and pillar mine near Singleton in New South Wales.
Eastern Mining, run by experienced contractor Vince Martin, who left Colrok last year to develop a niche contracting company, will operate the coal augering equipment of the Coal Augering Down Under joint venture.
Eastern Mining’s contract work is expected to be in this area of specialisation, with auger technology offered for two main applications - developing 1.8m diameter cut-throughs in longwall operations and recovering reserves that would otherwise be sterilised.
An article examining coal augering in greater detail will be published in Australia's Longwalls in September.
