Queensland ups July output

Overall output was up 1.45Mt on July 2003 with open cut mines showing the larger jump in production.

Total exports went from 10.9Mt in July last year to 11.45Mt this year. While coking coal exports rose, thermal coal exports were down on July 2003 figures. Dalrymple Bay exported 4.4Mt, Gladstone 3.4Mt and Hay Point 2.4Mt.

Employment figures continued to rise with 14,094 people employed by the sector during July compared to 11,074 a year ago. Just over 3000 were employed by underground operations.

Average output per seven hour employee shift was 50.55t.
