Both systems incorporate two IS Racks which contain barrier units which interface with the parent PABX (private automatic branch exchange). Ampcontrol’s system inherits the features and facilities offered by the site PABX’s analog extension ports so it immediately becomes part of an integrated mine-wide communications system.
The Springvale racks have capacity for 50 underground telephones and will address the growth resulting from a second shaft into new workings.
The Oaky Creek racks have capacity for 72 underground telephones and will handle expansion as well as replacement. Also, three special aboveground telephones with sirens fitted for installation in noisy areas will be incorporated into the system.
With an operational range in excess of 10km underground, the Ampcontrol systems fulfilled the relevant selection criteria at both sites. This included reliability offered by local battery back-up, cost effectiveness in both initial capital expenditure and ongoing maintenance, and ease of deployment and expansion.
Local back-up and support is also instrumental in the operation of the Ampcontrol manufactured systems, as well as products customised to clients’ individual requirements. The systems are Australian certified to meet both hazardous area and Australian Communications Authority requirements and are compatible with standard PABX’s and the PSTN (public switched telephone network).
