The derailment occurred the afternoon of July 1, and the track was reopened shortly after noon the next day. There were no injuries, and some of the damaged rail was replaced with pre-made segments.
Special units were deployed following the upset to remove the cars not affected and clear wreckage.
BNSF expected to catch up with their shipments this week, but clean-up of the derailment scene is estimated to take three to four weeks.
According to a Platts report, BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said the accident was not near the area where derailments occurred in May involving a joint line owned by it and Union Pacific – an incident both railroads are still recovering from in the form of reduced shipments.
