Production resumes at JWR No. 5

THE Jim Walter Resources Blue Creek No. 5 Mine in Brookwood, Alabama, resumed production this week.

Production resumes at JWR No. 5

The mine was idled in June after a water ingress problem and 250 workers were placed on "idle" status.

Estimates at the time indicated the mine may be out of action until year-end but the company recalled all workers to the No. 5 mine after the water ingress problem was eliminated.

JWR said there were no safety concerns for the miners.

JWR No. 5 produced 386,000 tonnes during the first quarter of 2005, averaging 1.92 tonnes per total man-hour.

Mining at the No. 5 mine is expected to close in late-2006 or early-2007 and the workforce transferred to the No. 7 mine.

Jim Walter Resources operates three coal mines in Alabama and is a subsidiary of Walter Industries.
