Tercek takes PBS position

SEVERSTAL Resources has appointed Mark Tercek as president of its PBS Coals USA subsidiary.

Donna Schmidt

Tercek was previously the company’s vice-president of operations. He replaces Robert Scott, who has resigned.

A 24-year veteran of the industry, Tercek joined the western Pennsylvania company in 1998. He is a mining engineering graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and is a certified professional engineer.

Russian miner OAO Severstal acquired PBS Coals in October 2008.

PBS produced a total of 1.5 million tons of coking coal and 1Mt of thermal coal last year. It is well known for being the owner of the Quecreek operation in Pennsylvania, where nine miners were trapped underground in July 2002 due to water inundation at the mine.
