First electric shearer in Hungary

Scheduled for delivery in early March 2003, the EL600 shearer will be used in the Markushegy mine in Pusztavá®

The state-owned mining company is part of the Vertesi Eromu utility group, which uses the brown coal mined to fire its power stations. As part of a group-wide modernization program which includes installation of power station desulphurization plant, the shearer investment secures the groupÂ’s coal production capacity.

The whole order process - from initial research to contract award - took less than five months, DBT said.

Originally designed to operate in low- to medium-seam applications, the DBT EL600 shearer has been adapted to work seam heights up to 3.5m. Used successfully to mine extremely hard product, it has two ranging arms, each with up to 450kW cutting power.

"The tried-and-tested AC haulage system provides power for a wide range of applications, while advanced control and automation systems maximise efficiency," DBT said.
