Ritchie Bros. Host First Ever Dedicated Australian National Mining Auction

Ritchie Bros. is ramping up their involvement in the mining sector with a dedicated National IronPlanet Online Mining Auction on September 23. The event already has some big players listing their assets including Thiess, Consolidated Mining, and Murray Engineering.

As delays in global OEM production due to the pandemic create headaches for the mining sector, companies are turning to the expertise of Ritchie Bros. to buy and sell their secondhand machines. Hundreds of national and international buyers are expected to register for the auction, which features more than 100 specialised mining assets including surface and underground equipment.

In 2021, the industry leader has continued to accelerate acceptance of large-scale online used equipment sales and purchases. Since shifting to exclusively online auctions in 2020, the company has seen record-breaking bidder participation, generated strong buyer demand, and secured outstanding results for both buyers and sellers.

The company has established a strong reputation in the mining sector for transacting high value assets globally through their leading online marketplace IronPlanet. The platform offers a convenient way to sell used equipment and other durable assets from where they sit to a global buyer base.

Regional Sales Manager at Ritchie Bros., Cody Watson said the event fills a much-needed gap in the mining sector.

"As the OEMs have suffered with delivery times, there is a global supply chain gap for new equipment, particularly in the mining industry. Ritchie Bros.' global connections in sourcing mining equipment, coupled with our ability to procure equipment across borders and territories has filled the gap in the past year."

"Many mining companies are facing long wait times and are unable to secure a delivery on a new machine until 2022. This auction is sure to see a lot of interest as mining companies and contractors will be able to source the equipment they need, without the long wait times, to keep projects on schedule and on budget."

Mr. Watson is encouraging mining companies to bring their old assets to market.

"Thiess are taking advantage of strong market demand for mining equipment right now by consigning their assets to our auction. They know Ritchie Bros. are uniquely positioned to sell their equipment for the best possible price.

Dale Spedding, Regional Sales Manager at Ritchie Bros. says there will be no other mining event like it.

"Highlight assets in the auction include a range of underground mining assets including loaders and blast hole drills from Murray Engineering, as well as 16 rock trucks (including ten Caterpillar 777Ds and two Caterpillar 789Bs), four +100 tonne excavators (including two Hitachi EX2500-5 and a 2016 Caterpillar 6018), and ten dozers (including four Caterpillar D11Ts)."

"Our site in Muchea, Western Australia and our expanded network with permanent yards in Brisbane, Geelong, Adelaide, Mittagong, and Dubbo have been critical to our success in the Australian mining sector. Our territory managers are on the ground across Australia for the convenience of our customers and leverage off our global network to secure the best results for our buyers and sellers."
