Dyno Nobel has commenced supply of its DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY blasting technology to multiple customers in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia. DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY enables tailoring of explosives energy to match geological conditions within the blasthole and across the blast.
Dyno Nobel's DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY technology is a high loading rate, high capacity, bulk emulsion explosive system that delivers improved safety, productivity and cost through maximising blast energy efficiency within the blasthole and across the bench.
DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY delivers a unique approach to blasting using:
- A high-rate pump capable of delivering pumped products at auger equivalent rates;
- Large capacity emulsion tank with full payload delivered every trip;
- Homogenisation to increase solid-like behaviour in the blasthole;
- Automated gassing managed by the MPU to meet accurate in-hole densities; and
- End-of-hose gassing for accurate placement of density segments in the blasthole.
These technologies enable Dyno Nobel customers to optimise the explosive energy distribution within the blasthole to match geological conditions to achieve specific blasting outcomes and reduce downstream costs.
"Customers are increasingly recognising how DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY can reduce downstream capital and processing costs, whilst improving productivity and reducing emissions from blasting," Dyno Nobel Vice President Product & Technology David Gribble said. "Accurate placement of the right energy in the right place in each blasthole can deliver an optimised result that carries through to downstream processes."
To facilitate the optimal application of explosive energy, Dyno Nobel developed ΔE² technology, unique software that incorporates a proprietary algorithm to utilise drill data to seamlessly create a customised explosive loading plan for each individual blasthole across the whole bench. This loading plan is transferred to the specifically designed DYNOBULK Mobile Processing Unit (MPU) and allows the targeted placement of explosive energy to match the geological conditions in each blasthole, across the whole blast.
"For our ‘metals' customers, this technology can improve fragmentation, and substantially reduce drill and blast costs through reduced in-hole explosive density or pattern expansion through the efficient application of explosive energy. In softer or highly fractured geology, DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY can be utilised to manage fume risk and blast vibration", explained David Gribble.
"DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY is an emulsion explosive homogenised to increase viscosity in the blasthole. If the geology is fractured, a traditional emulsion product can escape into fissures creating inefficient areas of detonation with potential for associated fume. The high viscosity of DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY offers superior retention within the blasthole with less opportunity to spread to cracks and fissures in the geology. Having no AN prill within the bulk explosive simplifies handling and reload complexity whilst offering significant improvements in water resistance and minimising the fume risk associated with prill based blends".
Dyno Nobel's proprietary DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY blasting technology is available throughout Australia and Indonesia.
