Over the last 45 years, Kal Tire’s Mining Tire Group has become a leader in mining tyre service and supply thanks to its constant pursuit of innovation, and its ability to bring new technology, tools and processes to mine sites around the world.
Driven by customers’ growing need to increase uptime and optimise the performance of their tyre investment, Kal Tire has always taken a pioneering approach to finding solutions that will help maximise tyre life as well as help customers improve productivity and safety.
In addition to its expertise in mining tyre management, Kal Tire is an independent, multi-brand dealer with the experience and ability to source the right tyre for the right application. A full suite of tyre management services provides mine operations with significant, measurable value for every stage of the tyre life cycle.
Today, nearly 2,700 team members support Kal Tire’s service to more than 150 mine sites across five continents. Kal Tire also owns and operates five earthmover retreading facilities in Canada, the United Kingdom, West Africa and Chile.
The organisation also has 2 Ultra Repair™ facilities in Australia —its exclusive and award-winning product and process that replaces steel belts inside ultra-class tyres suffering very large injuries to restore their original strength and integrity. Originally developed and launched by Kal Tire in Canada, Ultra Repair™ now renews hundreds of tyres, reducing landfill scrap across our international footprint of operations.
Innovation in tyre services, a growing program at Kal Tire, focuses on developing practical solutions to improve the safety for front-line technicians while also targeting improved productivity as they repair tyres for customers' fleets. Several exclusive and patented products have been launched and field-tested in Canada, South America, Australia and Africa.
With its aim to be at the forefront of risk management and ensure all technicians are trained to the same global safety and quality standards, Kal Tire has developed an industry-leading Learning Management System (LMS). LMS assigns specific curriculum to technicians to suit their role, tasks and equipment for the course of their training, which can take up to 27 months. Fully trained team members understand not just their tools and tasks, but also the hazards and controls of the trade. In this way, Kal Tire offers assurances to customers that wherever they’re located, they’ll receive the same outstanding commitment to tyre management.
Kal Tire has a solution for end of tyre life too. A unique process and partnership, operating currently in Canada, offers tyre shredding recycling service to mining customers in the oil sands, and a new thermal conversion tyre recycling facility is set to open in Chile in the summer of 2019.
