QMI awaits Moranbah North report

Moranbah North was in the midst of a longwall move so production was not affected and there were no injuries.

A Queensland Mines Inspectorate spokesman told Australia's Mining Monthly that the inspectorate was notified of a rock fall at the Moranbah North mine that occurred on January 29.

"An inspector has been on site and inspected the fall," he said.

"No injuries were reported. The inspectorate is awaiting the outcomes of Anglo American's investigation into the incident."

An Anglo American spokeswoman told AMM that the company had resumed longwall development work at Moranbah North.

"As a precaution, we are adding extensive additional roof supports in the new development area," she said.

"We will also bring forward the planned implementation of further technological solutions.

"Our investigation into the causes of the incident is ongoing, with the support of geotechnical and other specialists."

Safety in Queensland coal mines has been a focus after eight fatalities occurred over the past 18 months.

One miner was killed and six others were injured after a collision between a grader and a personnel carrier in the access drift at Moranbah North in February 2019.
