According to local news outlet WTAW, the loaded Union Pacific Train lost 16 of its total 135 cars near Cooks Point, Burleson County – northeast of Houston – at about 3.30pm.
All cars remained upright after leaving the tracks, UP spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza confirmed.
It is not known where the loads originated or where they were headed.
As of late Friday local time, UP had dispatched crews to move the cars back onto the tracks and clear all damage.
An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
