Richard Perez Jara, 21 and Reinaldo Brevis Jaque, 39, were rescued at about 2.15am local time on Wednesday at the Buen Retiro mine and taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment for dehydration.
They had been trapped about 492ft underground since 4am Tuesday following a cave-in at the mine about 300 miles from Santiago.
The Latin American Herald Tribune reported that the pair were in a good condition when they were rescued.
Biobio region governor Victor Lobos told the paper that the rescue crew was led by the men’s co-workers, who slowly traveled through a 1.9ft by 1.9ft tunnel to reach them.
Biobio’s Arauco province historically had many coal operations, but high costs forced the closure of many mines in the 1990s.
Those remaining are mostly small and mid-sized operations and have subpar working conditions.
