Coal teams will not compete against metal and nonmetal teams, however, they

will compete against each other.

MSHA said the mix would provide an opportunity for both metal and nonmetal and coal teams to jointly share and discuss mine rescue experiences and exchange ideas that may be of mutual benefit.

The contest will be comprised of four events: the field competition consisting of a two-day preliminary and a one-day final competition (the top six teams from day one and day two), an apparatus benchman contest, a multi-gas instrument benchman contest, and a first aid contest. Each event will include a written examination.
