New rule for continuous miners

MSHA said the rule would eliminate the need for mine operators to file petitions for modification to use this equipment and would maintain the existing level of protection for miners.

The proposed rule is in response to the use of high-voltage continuous miners becoming more widespread.

Comments on the rule must be received by September 14. Public hearings will be held beginning September 21 and post-hearing comments and other appropriate data will be accepted until October 14.
