ZYL chief executive Ian Benning said the board change was an attempt to ready the company as it evolved development of its projects in South Africa.

“We are currently reviewing ZYL’s board structure to ensure we are equipped with an appropriate range and depth of skills to steer ZYL through its transition from explorer to developer, and as part of this process it is expected that [ZYL executive chairman Bevan] Tarratt will move to an executive director role and a new non-executive chairman will be appointed,” he said.

“We welcome Glenn Whiddon to the board; he brings considerable experience in the resources sector, and is joining us at a very exciting time in the company’s development.”

ZYL’s Kangwane tenement is situated in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province and has an exploration target of 350-450 million tonnes and a JORC-compliant resource of 136.3Mt.

Its Mbila project is situated in the country’s KwaZulu-Natal province, has a JORC-compliant resource of 125Mt, and is scheduled to start production in 2013.
