Siemens wins Chinese hoist order

Siemens will equip the facility with electrical components while company subsidiary Siemag will supply the mechanical components. The system will offer a hoisting capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum.

The main motors of the winders have an output of 4000kW at 50rpm and will be equipped with DC link voltage converters to suit the weak power supply networks encountered in the country.

The conveying system is powered by a four-rope conventional winder which transports the coal in skips with a payload of 25t at speeds of 12m per second.

The two winders are fitted with hydraulic disc brake systems for safety.

The order also includes the power distribution systems and the automation equipment, including safety systems and cooling and ventilation systems for the motors and converters.

Siemens will also be responsible for engineering, installation work supervision and personnel training.

The pit conveying systems are scheduled to start operating mid-2009.
