The agency has assigned the product approval BFE 92-10. Under the Pennsylvania Bituminous Mine Act, the Polaris can be used in any of the state’s bituminous underground coal operations.

With the green light received, NL Technologies plans to fulfill all of the orders it has received from Pennsylvania operations.

The US Mine Safety and Health Administration approved the Polaris for use across all US underground coal mines in late June. It was the first cordless lamp to receive such approval.

Designed specifically for the mining environment, the Polaris cap lamp features an ultra-bright LED headpiece with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery that can take more than 500 charges.

The impact, dust and water-resistant unit produces 3500 lux output for more than 12 hours of operating time, weighing in at just 6 ounces.

Polaris has the benefits of low maintenance and great flexibility, as the low-profile lamp can be mounted on a person, hard hat or equipment using a variety of mounting and clip options.

The hands-free light also features an emergency flashing beacon.
