Winning West Virginia State Mine Safety awards were the Shoemaker mine in Marshall County, the Blacksville No. 2 operation in Wana, the Fola surface mine and Peach Orchard preparation plant in Bickmore, and the Peg Fork surface mine in Naugatuck.
Two more Consol operations earned Joseph A Holmes Safety Awards – formerly known as Pacesetter Awards – for their safety records, including Little Eagle Coal in Bickmore and the Central Repair Shop in Monongah.
The operations were recognized for safe work between December 29, 2009 and March 31, 2011, recording 1,738,800 hours without a lost-time accident. Association officials handed out the awards recently during the 28th annual HAS state council meeting in Roanoke.
Some Consol workers were also individually honored for safety achievements, including coal operations chief operating officer Jimmy Brock as a coal safety leader in West Virginia.
The award is presented each year to those who contribute to injury and fatality prevention.
Certificates of honor were also awarded to Jeremy Rowan and Casey Short from the Robinson Run No. 95 mine in Wetzel County for heroism and professional dedication to miner health and safety.
The two, Consol officials said, took extreme care and preventative actions after discovering a fire on a piece of underground diesel equipment.
The Holmes Safety Association, established in 1916, recognizes mining operations across the US annually for safety excellence.
