The union called the gold and coal sector to join the strike to join and demand better wages at a time the sector is struggling due to low commodity prices.
Amcu previously failed to embark on a joint strike action in the gold and platinum sectors, after the Chamber of Mines successfully took the union to court, maintaining that Amcu was bound by a collective agreement signed by the National Union of Mineworkers, Solidarity and the United Association of South Africa.
